Dining in  MOCO

Morgan County has a menu to suit all appetites.

Take a seat at The Warden’s Table at an historic prison, bite into an award-winning fried bologna sandwich in a country store, overload on a locally made pizza, homemade barbecue, a plate full of Mexican specialties, good country cooking, dine creekside with live music, or drive into a fast-food eatery.

Wash it down with sweet tea, end of the line moonshine, home brewed beer or a cold soda pop.  Something for everyone and offered with a friendly welcome smile.

Built in the 1920s, Tanners Cafe and Sundries was a beloved business that had fallen into a serious state of disrepair and was in immediate danger of being lost forever.

Morgan County Tourism Alliance gained ownership of the building in 2019 and on April 22, 2022, Tanners  Historical Cafe  opened her door to greet the future.

Wardens+Table+Restaurant+(1).jpg

The Warden's Table restaurant  at Historic Brushy Mountain Prison in Petros, TN, offers a variety of southern food, serving up everything from classic BBQ plates and loaded potatoes to BBQ nachos and cheeseburgers. It's Southern cooking with a twist and hospitality at its best. The Warden’s Table couples tasteful, fresh-daily dishes made with the highest-quality ingredients that emphasize southern cuisine.

With plenty of room for families and large groups, food is served cafeteria style so you’ll be in and out before you know it, giving you time to browse in our gift shop or spend time touring the prison.

Local residents Jason and Amanda Brown and  partners  Jessie and Tori England opened  the brick and mortar restaurant after originally starting their food truck in 2017.   They offered a limited menu for their soft opening and offered two sizes of pulled pork sandwiches, burritos, loaded potatoes, fries and nachos, hot dogs and smoked bologna sandwiches.  The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor dining and take out.  It's great to have another dining option in Morgan County.
